Marine Corps Marathon
The Marine Corps Marathon in the fourth largest in the United States and the seventh largest in the world. Marines are scattered throughout the race, both in participation and as spectators, offering support. They are also at the end of the race to greet the finishers.
Marine Corp Marathon Route
The course changes every year but mostly starts in Arlington, Virginia. The course has an ascent on Lee Highway and has a descent along Spout Run. They also cross the Key Bridge and move into Georgetown after Arlington. Next, they are right in D.C. The course passes the Kennedy Center, National Mall, and many monuments, earning this marathon the name “Marathon of Monuments.” After passing the Pentagon, runners will be near the end of the course, which is at the Marine Corp Memorial. Here they will be greeted with a space blanket and a chance to have their photo taken.

Results Of 2005 Marine Corp Marathon
In 2005, Ruben Garcia from Washington DC won the men’s overall marathon with a time of 2:22:18. Second place was claimed by Carl Rundell from Birmingham, Michigan with a time of 2:22:26- a very close finish. The names that follow won third up to tenth place, respectively, in the 2005 Marine Corp Marathon: Eric Post from Centerville, VA, with a time of 2:23:54; John Mentzer from Monterey, CA, with a time of 2:24:26; Hipolito Sandovol from Washington DC with a time of 2:27:29; Benjamin Palafox from Washington DC with a time of 2:27:45; Jon Clemens from San Diego, CA with a time of 2:30:25; Dauvio Roberts from Seymour Plain, MA, with a time of 2:30:39; Keith Matiskella with a time of 2:30:43; and Sergio Perez from Washington DC with a time of 2:30:48.
In the women’s division, Susanna Kvasnicka from Great Falls, VA, won the 2005 Marine Corps Marathon with a time of 2:47:10. In Second place was Liz Wilson from Eugene, OR, with a time of 2:50:03. The rest of the following names finished from third to tenth place in order, respectively: Emily Brozozowski from Savannah, GA with a time of 2:54:58; Marlene Farrel from Leavenworth, WA, with a time of 2:55:55; Kaitlin Nelson from Ithaca, NY, with a time of 2:56:06; Cathy Pugsley from Potomac Falls, VA, with a time of 2:58:48; Wendy Scott from Plymouth with a time of 2:59:09; Shelly Brand from Virginia Beach, VA, With a time of 3:00:36; Melissa Cole from Norfolk, VA, with a time of 3:03:56;and Jennifer Richard from Notre Dame, IN, with a time of 3:07:21.
