Half Marathon
Half Marathon
A half marathon is a road running event of 13 miles, 192.5 yards. It is exactly as the title says, half of a marathon. It is considered a very good event for amateurs because it is long enough to be serious but does not require the same amount of training as a marathon. It is common for half marathons to be held concurrently with a full marathon using a similar course with the same start and finish point. The half marathon can be finished in a little over an hour by elite athletes. Training for a half marathon is not as intensive as for a marathon, but it still takes time and dedication to do well. Like marathon training it is good to find a personal trainer and also do some studying about training on various Web sites. It could also be helpful to find a buddy to help train. Another person will be a source of motivation, encouragement and support when things get rough. A half marathon would be a good step up for someone who has run smaller endurance races such as a 5K or 10K but it is not necessary for someone to run a half marathon before a marathon.
