Favourite Marathon Runs
Many people have probably heard of at least the Boston Marathon and possibly others held in their local area. The important thing to recognize is that people attend marathons for various reasons. First there’s the athlete, they have trained to make it to this event and do their best. They appreciate the endurance it takes to finish a race and many will set goals for themselves. For them it doesn’t matter about the venue as much, though more prestigious races will attract the more dedicated. Many athletes will compete in a marathon just for the sake of making a particular goal, whether finishing for the first-timer, or shaving seconds or minutes off an end-time for a veteran. Participants who are there for this reason will enjoy a marathon whether it’s held in Boston, New York, Chicago or if it’s held in small-town USA. Some other athletes will also participate to help support a cause and for them they will find such charity events.

The fans are the next to consider. A marathon fan will vary more than the competitors in their preference of venue. Some will be as serious as the athletes who are participating and want to be there just to watch the sport in action. Others will be there to see the different attractions that a city has to offer. And some will be there to help support a local cause. Each of these fans has a good reason to come watch a marathon. Some marathons will even be hosted along with some type of concert. Whether it’s a benefit or just for pure entertainment the fans will come to enjoy both. Many of these fans will go to what attracts them most. Traveling the world to see the London or Rome marathons could be a fan’s dream and that would be what gets them interested.
The final parties to consider are the event organizers. These are the people who are doing all of the behind-the-scenes stuff to keep the marathon running. They may be passionate about the sport, but this is not the only reason. Some want to help uphold a tradition, such as the Boston Marathon since it is so well known in the United States and the world. If for some reason the organizers all decided to not hold the event there would be a multitude of reactions. Still other organizers will hold a favorite marathon for the purposes of a benefit or aiding a cause. No party involved in a marathon is in it for the wrong reason. Athlete, fan, or support staff, each will give different reasons why it is important to them and why they enjoy the marathon.
