Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon

Other marathons besides the Boston Marathon are also respected and widely attended. One of these is the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon. Smaller marathons are a good way to train for more prestigious marathons. They are also helpful to see if you can get a good qualifying time for a marathon such as the Boston one. In addition, you can see if you can improve on your personal bests and see how you compare to some of the competition. Mostly United States residents compete in this marathon.

Flying Pig Marathon In Cincinnati

According to a press release, Isaac Barnes from Williamsport, Ohio, “beat a record field to take the 2007 Marathon title in a time of 2:33:36” in the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon after his sixth marathon attempt. He is 31 and finished second three times.
Also in the men’s division, Kevin Alessandro, who is 27, finished with a time of 2:34:53. He is from Northern Kentucky, but now lives in Louisville. A cramp possibly cost him the lead in the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon. The third place winner should be proud for already placing in only his second marathon.

As for the women’s division, Leah Peelman, who is 23 from Kennedy Heights, came in first in the Flying Pig Marathon (her first time running the marathon), with a time of 2:55:53. She wanted to run the marathon before, but school always kept her too busy. Tanya Thatcher from Mason won second with a time of 3:03:40. She, much like her men’s division counterpart, also held the lead for most of the race until the physical demands of the race overcame her. She felt dizzy around mile 19 and 20 and has sketchy memory after mile 20. Despite this shortcoming, she will remember her personal best time. Next year’s runners will surely remember these two almost second place winner’s tales and will also learn how long it takes to overcome somebody in a race. Peelman tried for five miles to pass Thatcher. This marathon also has a Half Marathon, which was won in 2007 by T.J. Lentz, who is forty years old with a time of 1:10:02. A 38-year-old woman from Moscow, Russia, won the women’s half marathon, with a time of 1:23:15. 2008 will be the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon’s 10th year.

The Flying Pig Marathon

Also according to the press release, Runner’s World Magazine named The Flying Pig Marathon one of the top 10 "Most Fun Runs" in the world and, “one of the best corporate brands” by Fast Company.
