Boys swim teams have long traditions, often popular in prep schools, and are beneficial in many ways today, often even more so than they once were. They still offer young men a chance at being part of a team and the camaraderie that are great character builders. They also offer excellent sources of exercise in a world with an exponentially growing obesity epidemic. Additionally, a gifted swimmer on a team could get himself a scholarship to college, and with fewer and fewer families having the finances to afford college, and college tuition on the rise at debilitating rates, this can be a godsend for some boys. The swimming season typically runs from November to March. This also gives boys the opportunity to stay active and to have something to do aside from homework during the winter months.

Boys don’t need to be on school teams in order to gain the benefits and fun of swimming.
