Austin Marathon

Austin Marathon

The Austin marathon was established in 1992. After the 2006 race AT&T took over sponsorship of the race. It was originally sponsored by a company now known as Freescale Semiconductor Inc. The marathon not only includes the race but also some different events in the days leading up to the big event. It is mandatory for all runners to go to the Orowheat Health and Fitness Expo at the Palmers Event Center. There are many different vendors that come to sell food and drink products to the participants of the marathon. There are also motivational speakers who come to get the runners excited about the event.

AT&T Austin Marathon

The official Web site of the marathon lists information for both its full and half marathon courses. The current start and end of the race are both in downtown Austin and are fairly close to each other. On the site they feature news articles regarding the Austin marathon and its participants. An area with a list of training organizations is listed under the “training” section of the Web site. These links provide runners with a source to improve themselves and it is impressive that they give information for some local and national training programs for runners. An interesting link provided on the home page of the Austin marathon leads to the Austin Distance Challenge Web site. It promotes a series of distance races that culminates in the ultimate distance race: a marathon. These races would be good training benchmarks for someone who wants to compete in the marathon. Fundraising sites that participate in the Austin marathon are also given for those who like to help a cause. It is an incredibly well organized site with a lot of resources for the participants. Many runners will find exactly what they need to help them with not only this race but others as well.

2007 Austin Marathon

2007 featured a new course for the Austin marathon. According to marathonguide.com, a site where people can review various marathons they have participated in, Austin’s new course was a success. Many participants have given very positive reviews. Some negative points about the new race included a disorganized starting point, too early of a report time and parking problems at the expo. For every negative review there are about four to five positive reviews so it seems that many runners enjoyed participating. Even the positive reviews had some good criticism that would help a runner decide if they would participate in this marathon.
