2007 Boston Marathon

2007 Boston Marathon

The Boston Marathon is the only marathon that requires all non-professional runners to meet a set qualifying time. Therefore, this raises the level of competition. With evolution and such, the bar keeps being raised higher for each Boston Marathon, and the 2007 marathon was no different. About 20,000 people ran the marathon, so the level of competition was very high. A cash prize is awarded to the winners, but most people complete the Boston Marathon for personal reasons, such as pushing themselves to the limits of the human condition, participating in such a historic event or the bragging rights for participating in such a prestigious race. They indeed have bragging rights, as the qualifying standard is very high, even though it differs by sex and age. It is the most popular and most viewed sporting event in New England, with about 500,000 spectators along the course. The media coverage of this event is also incredibly widespread, with over 1,000 people receiving media credentials.

2007 Boston Marathon Course

The course of the Boston Marathon is unique and is much different than running on a track or other terrain. Running mostly on the roads, which if awful for the athletes ankles, the course covers over 26 miles. The half marathon has an earlier finish line and runs just over 13 miles. A particularly difficult aspect of the course is called Heartbreak Hill, since it is late in the course and also has a dramatic ascent.
